Essential Summer Salad: Green Papaya Salad

There is nothing more fresh and tasty than a colourful Green Papaya Salad. This simple recipe with leave you wanting more every single time!

Ingredients:

  • 1 green paw paw (also known as green papaya)
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves, chopped
  • 1/4 cup roasted peanuts, crushed
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce (or soy sauce for a vegetarian option)
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 small chili pepper, thinly sliced (optional for spice)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Peel the green paw paw and cut it in half. Remove the seeds and then shred the flesh using a grater or a mandoline slicer. Place the shredded paw paw in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add the grated carrot, chopped cilantro, and chopped mint to the bowl with the shredded paw paw.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the minced garlic, fish sauce, lime juice, brown sugar, and sliced chili pepper (if using) to make the dressing. Adjust the seasoning to your taste with salt and pepper.
  4. Pour the dressing over the salad ingredients in the mixing bowl and toss everything together until well combined.
  5. Sprinkle the crushed peanuts over the salad just before serving.
  6. Serve the green paw paw salad chilled or at room temperature as a refreshing appetiser or side dish.
